Update (August 2023): Good news! Recognizing that the tree roots have continued to cause significant damage to the graves in the Bien Hoa Cemetery, the local government has authorized to resume tree-cutting efforts after a three-year pause because of the COVID pandemic. A good number of trees were cut down between 2017-2020. In Vietnamese culture, tree roots penetrating the grave signify disturbance and bad luck for the deceased’s family. The team at IHWB is grateful for the local government’s generous efforts in pursuing this project.
